“THERE IS SO MUCH IN THE PIPELINE. IT’S A PARTICULARLY EXCITING TIME TO JOIN THE TEAM”
SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Expected to open in 2026, West Midlands Interchange station will be a crucial part of the success of HS2. This busy hub will need to serve the needs of commuters for generations to come, so it comes as no surprise that Niki, the Senior Project Manager who is working on the design and delivery of the station, relishes the opportunity to solve problems and think creatively about the potential of the station.
“Each day a new challenge arises. I get a real sense of satisfaction from solving dilemmas and ensuring the team’s thoughts and ideas turn into strategies that will progress the project.”
Having recently been involved in the redevelopment of New Street Station in Birmingham as a main contractor, Niki was understandably keen to utilise her knowledge – but this time, on the client-side of the business.
“It seemed a natural progression to join one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the UK and build on my prior experience, and HS2 is a fantastic opportunity to do just that.”
Having made the change from contract to client work, Niki is enthusiastic about other people pushing their own boundaries.
“There is a lot of work to be done and you really do learn something new every day in HS2.”
So what does an average day include? “I’m not sure there is such a thing as an ‘average’ day! My team and I are working with a large range of stakeholders from The Department of Transport to local landowners and councils. We also coordinate the needs of all the interfacing departments such as Rail Systems, Technical, Cost and Environment, so the work is varied and dynamic.”
“We’re at an exciting stage in our development, and I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for us.”
