Panel Member Opportunities

Independent Design Panel Members – Station Design

To help HS2 deliver their Design Vision, applications are invited from experts in the field of Architecture with significant knowledge and passion for the contribution of design to major projects.

HS2 will be a catalyst for growth across Britain. The aim is to enhance the lives of future generations by designing a transformational rail system that is admired around the world.

As part of this ambition, the HS2 Design Vision published on 23 March 2015, will help to drive design excellence in every aspect of HS2 to achieve its social, economic and environmental potential. The Design Vision will underpin all aspects of design.

The role of the HS2 Design Panel is to be an independent advisor and critical friend in helping HS2 deliver the Design Vision. The Panel will take a broad approach – overseeing the process through which HS2 is developed, the experience of those impacted by it and how it is designed to function effectively as a transport system for future generations.

Given the size of the HS2 project, the Independent Design Review Panel is an essential and a critical resource for the HS2 programme. The Design Panel will provide expert advice in many areas through the various phases of the programme, with a particular focus on:

People centred design that offers customers a high quality spatial experience that provides a dramatic, inspiring backdrop to the journey to and from the trains;

Station designs that respond to the local context and add to and create a sense of place;

Stations that provide a lasting legacy for the local communities and all who use and work in them;

As a Panel member, you will be a recognised expert in your field with a deep understanding of how to leverage the process of design to best serve the needs of the end users and those impacted by HS2. We are looking for an Architecture expert with broad range of experience, which will not be limited to, but will include major infrastructure, transport and rail associated programmes. You will be a recognised expert amongst your peers with a proven track record of working cross functionally with other disciplines to give coherent advice that can be acted on. In addition to your track record, you’ll require an understanding of the political, reputational and policy sensitivities of a non-executive role in public life.

For further information about this role and to apply, please see send your CV and covering letter to

Daily Stipend payable for variable number of days per annum.

Closing date for completed applications is midnight on 5th February 2018.

HS2 will revolutionise our railways, create thousands of jobs, bring major cities closer together, generate investment in neglected areas and provide passengers with an unprecedented travel experience.
